2 cops beaten by drug peddlers in Khulna

News Desk: Drug peddlers have attacked and injured two policemen during an anti-narcotics drive in Khulna’s Rupsha upazila.

A team of Putimari police outpost came under attack while conducting the drive at Kochatola area of the upazila around 9pm on Thursday, Khulna Additional Superintendent of Police (A Circle) Badiuzzaman said.

Two sub-inspectors (SIs) – Robiul Islam and Saiful Islam – were mercilessly beaten by a group of hemp traders at the spot.

Injured SI Saiful claimed the drug peddlers confined him after the assault while locals rescued severely injured SI Robiul after a while. Robiul was later taken to the Upazila Health Complex.

A team of Rupsha police station conducted a drive in the area and rescued SI Saiful after about an hour’s search. None of the attackers was arrested.
