Fisherman’s body recovered as boats capsize in Meghna

Lakshmipur: A fisherman was killed and another went missing as several fishing boats capsized in the River Meghna due to storm in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur on early Friday (Sep 29).

The deceased was identified as Md Bablu, 25, son of one Dhanu Mia of Char Afzal village while the missing person was identified as Siddique Ullah, son of one Abdul Wahab of Char Darbesh village.

Ramgati police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Iqbal Hossain said a group of fishermen with 10-12 boats went to Boyarchar area in the river to catch fish on Thursday night. At one point, all the boats sank in the river during heavy storm early in the morning.

Two people went missing in the incident and rest managed to swim ashore. One body recovered in morning and search for another is going on, he added.
