One die, one missing as 12 boats sink in Laxmipur

Laxmipur: A man was killed and another went missing as 12 boats capsized in the Meghna river amid storm at Chargazaria in Ramgati upazila early Friday, UNB reports.

The deceased was identified as Bablu of Char Afzal village while the missing man was identified as Siddik Ullah.

Quoting fishermen, police said a group of fishermen with 12 boats went to Boyarchar and Chargazaria in the Meghna River to catch fish, said ASM Mahtab Uddin, superintendent of Laxmipur Police.

At one stage, all the boats sank in the river during storm early in the morning.

16 fishermen managed to swim ashore while Siddik Ullah went missing and the body of Bablu was recovered from Chargazaria in the river.
